Cornanool N.S. is a three-teacher school situated in the parish of Islandeady in close proximity to Castlebar, Co. Mayo. As of 30/09/2026 there are 64 students on role. Students are separated into three mainstream classes. The Junior room which includes Junior Infants & Senior Infants, The middle room which includes 1st Class, 2nd Class and 3rd Class. The Senior room includes 4th, 5th and 6th classes. The school has a full-time S.E.T. in situ and a visiting SET once per week. The school also has 1.83 S.N.A. allocation filled by Mrs. Siobhán McDonnell and Mrs. Michelle Paterson.
Catholic Ethos
Cornanool N.S. is a school which celebrates its catholic ethos. As a result, the school implements the Grow in Love programme from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. Furthermore, students intending on taking the sacraments prepare for 1st Holy Communion which takes place annually for students in second class and Confirmation which takes place bi-annually for students in fifth and sixth class.
History:
Built in 1896 the school extended its floorplan in 2006 to include two modern 50m2 classrooms and appropriate toilet facilities. Since October 2019 the school has become a three-teacher school. Plans for the addition of two 80m2 classrooms, a 15m2 S.E.T. room and a new accessible toilet have been submitted to the department.
